Get to Know IMV

Annette Llanes, DVM

Dr. Llanes grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina where she earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. During all 5 years of undergraduate and graduate coursework she worked at the university’s dairy farm.  Dr. Llanes also spent a summer on a commercial hog farm, a summer on a cow calf ranch in Montana, and spent a month in Haiti working with goat farmers. She became enthralled with animal agriculture and, through her thesis work on ovulation synchronization in goats, developed a special interest in reproductive sciences.

Looking for some adventure a little further from home she applied to veterinary school at Colorado State University and learned about the collaborative program with the University of Alaska Fairbanks. On a bit of a whim, she decided to make the big trek north, determined to try this crazy looking sport called skijoring with her sheep herding border collie. Although Gus the border collie wasn’t the biggest fan of pulling in harness, Dr. Llanes found herself drawn to the sport of dog mushing and the wild state of Alaska.

After finishing her final 2 years of vet school at the CSU campus, despite thoroughly enjoying the beautiful country that Colorado had to offer, Dr. Llanes and her partner decided to make the move back to Alaska. Dr. Llanes started Interior Mobile Vet with the hopes of bringing high quality, consistent and reliable veterinary care to the large animal communities of interior Alaska. Her vision is to work with producers to promote long term, sustainable farming and homesteading practices to promote animal agriculture in the state of Alaska.Dr. Llanes also looks forward to working with dog mushers in the community to help them achieve whatever goals their kennel has and do so with a yard full of happy and healthy dogs.  As a young, eager doctor she aspires to grow and learn with her community to better serve her patients and clients in their own unique ways. She looks forward to meeting her/ new patients and getting to know the humans that care for them.

Brittany Wilhite, DVM

Dr. Wilhite is originally from California, but has lived quite a nomadic life! It was a lifelong dream to become a veterinarian, so after living in Texas and raising a heifer in FFA (which sparked the interest to include large animals in the future vet repertoire!), she moved to New Jersey to attend Rutgers University to study Animal Science (pre-vet concentration). During that time, she pursued several large animal experiences to include animal handling at the University farm, cattle stress research on large dairies, and even cattle artificial insemination certification.

A few months following undergraduate graduation, she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska on a whim. While in Alaska, she learned about animal husbandry and the niche community of the Fairbanks animal scene. To further her education, she moved to Kansas for a year to pursue a Master’s degree in Veterinary Biomedical Science before moving back to Fairbanks. Shortly after, she began veterinary school in the University of Alaska Fairbanks/Colorado State University 2+2 collaborative program. After her first year of vet school, she joined Dr. Annette Llanes in the budding IMV practice that summer. A seed was planted to eventually return to the Interior and join the IMV mission!

Following veterinary school graduation, she moved to Texas to complete a one-year internship at the largest mixed animal practice in Texas. She kept in touch with Dr. Llanes over the years, and both were eager at the idea of joining forces to provide high quality medicine, client education/outreach, and beyond to several communities across the Interior. So, following the internship, Wilhite booked it up to Fairbanks.

Dr. Wilhite loves true mixed animal general practice and the variety it brings! As a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed young doctor, she’s excited to see what IMV cases bring and learn skills applicable to serve the needs of the humans and their animals in the community.

When she is not living the vet med life, she enjoys cuddling with her children (a dog named Lunar, a dog named Clive, and a rabbit named Austin). She is a big fan of music and is always jamming out! Her and her partner usually enjoy a quiet life at home, baking sweets and painting.

Wilhite looks forward to the continued challenges and successes that IMV has to offer as a niche and quickly growing practice!

Dee, Client Communications

Dee was born and raised just outside Nenana, Alaska. Her dad owned a freight husky kennel, and Dee did personal mushing her entire childhood, just hauling wood, building supplies, and the animals they got on their trap lines.

Dee has worked in vet med as a receptionist and vet assistant since 2020.

She is currently attending online classes to obtain her Veterinary Technician associate's degree, through Penn Foster.

Her family, her faith, and working with animals have always been Dee's passions.

Dee plans to have a small, self-sustaining farm with livestock that works with nature to produce and thrive.

Her family includes the love of her life, Nicholas, their 2 beautiful young children, Finn and Beatrice, and their old sweetheart pitbull, Minnie.

Ariel, Client Communications

Ariel is originally from Middle Georgia and was that strange kid who loved animals but

never had one of her own. But it never failed, Ariel would gravitate towards animals! She grew up wanting to be a veterinarian and made it halfway through her 8 years of schooling

before deciding to switch to becoming a veterinary technician.

Ariel has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) since 2022 and has been in touch

with the veterinary field since 2015 in both small animal and equine. Ariel is super excited

to join the IMV team and helping bring my experiences to Alaska!

Ariel loves spending time outside and, though she loves all animals (except for reptiles!), horses are her passion and she jokes that they are her therapy! She has lived all over the country and gotten to see and experience many cool places! Her dog, Athena, keeps Ariel and her husband, Caleb, busy and active, even when it is -30 below!
